Journey to the Other Side of the World

These past few months, Bricole, everyone’s favorite celebrity couple, have been toiling hard in their fields of expertise. But it’s finally time for our big spring trip. We seem to historically be headed to Europe and today is no exception. This time, however, it is just a jumping off point. From there, we intend to launch to a few of the Stans — namely Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Right now you’re probably thinking — well well well, that Bricole always has to be different. They couldn’t just go to Barcelona like normal people. And that’s right. Because places like Barcelona are already inundated with tourists. And based on the amount of people waiting to board the Iberia flight, we probably wouldn’t have gotten on the plane anyway.

As of right now, we are halfway into a SAS flight to Copenhagen. We are no strangers to this route with Copenhagen poised to overtake Amsterdam as one of our most used access points into Europe. We are eligible for business class seats on SAS, but we have only been successful in actually securing them once out of the five or so times we’ve flown them. Nevertheless, we still hope and it’s the hope that kills you. After a relatively painless trip through Terminal B security, we had a little bit of time to kill and walked the length of the terminal before we eventually were given seats in SAS Plus, a sort of premium economy. Having been in all different classes on SAS, the Plus cabin is actually quite a step up from regular economy. Last time we did this route, we were in regular economy and were so crammed in by the man next to us that we actually couldn’t get up for the entire 11 hour flight.

This time, however, we had ample leg room, bigger seats, and a surprising amount of recline without inhibiting the people behind us. Our flight departed on time a little after 7pm. We had eaten a little bit at home before going to the airport, but were soon given an “okay” in-flight dinner that gave me the toots. I watched Anaconda before vainly attempting sleep amidst a chorus of old men coughing and occasionally a dog barking. I think its name was Sigrid. Sleeping on a plane is always a challenge.

After landing at Copenhagen’s Kastrup airport, we then transferred for a flight to Warsaw. If you’re as well versed in your airline routes as Nicole is, you’d know that LOT Airlines has a direct flight from LAX to Warsaw and might be wondering why Bricole added an extra stop in between. Well, for whatever reason, that LOT flight was absolutely packed and changing planes in Copenhagen isn’t a big deal like it might be in say . . . Heathrow or the pits of hell. After groggily stumbling off the plane, we made our way to the Pearl Lounge using Priority Pass. It was nicer than some we’ve been to in recent times and not too crowded. We got some more food and a few drinks to sustain us until it was closer to our flight time.

We had already received seat assignments for this flight 24 hours ago, which was nice so we were wild and booked a hotel before stepping on to the plane. We were even put in a boarding group ahead of half the plane, which was a bit surprising. We departed rainy Copenhagen in the SAS E195 and just over an hour later, we were landing in rainy Warsaw. We had to ride a bus after getting off the plane and then got in line to catch a Bolt to the Puro Hotel in Warsaw, which took about 20 minutes. Having not had a proper meal in a while, we went to the hotel’s restaurant and split some potatoes and schnitzel before turning in for the night.
