After nearly ten months since my last dentist visit, it was time to get the chompers looked at. And as everyone knows, the only place to get one’s teeth looked at is in Orlando, Florida. After an otherwise successful visit, I was scolded for grinding my teeth, and sent on my way.

Though Central Florida is known for its summer heat and humidity, it did seem especially oppressive for early June. Nevertheless, we braved the outdoors by going to Tibet-Butler Nature Preserve. We were promised turtles, alligators and more. Perhaps the creatures weren’t too keen on the heat either since all we ended up seeing was one little gator toward the end of the trail.

For an area also known for its high humidity and torrential thunderstorms, I was surprised to hear that the area was suffering from some kind of drought. Salt (everyone’s favorite senior travel couple) let us know that a walking path trestle in their neighborhood was open again after years of having been under water. This was very exciting for Bricole, everyone’s favorite celebrity couple, who chose to explore the area around the often unnavigable trestle.

We looked out from the trestle at the numerous lily pads as the colors in the sky gradually changed. Over the next few days, our outdoor activities were somewhat limited, but we still tried to make it happen. We went to a place called Moge Tee, where I ordered a cheese foam tea on a whim. It was not especially cheesy, but we drank them outside in the heat which perhaps made it sit funny in my tummy. I was glad to have tried it, but would probably not order it again.

When we did eventually try to leave Orlando, Spirit Airlines caused Nicole a fair amount of grief. While I realize Spirit is not often synonymous with good service, they were especially cheeky and unhelpful in Nicole’s case — causing her to take 14.5 hours to go from Orlando to Newark with an unfortunate layover in Raleigh-Durham. If I am able to get back on schedule for my regular six month visit to the dentist, I will be back in December when the weather is presumably a bit cooler, yet Spirit is still terrible.
