Our morning was a bit elongated thanks to the delay from Samoa Airways. This is evidently not uncommon. Their website looks like an Angelfire website from the 1990s (screenshot below). But the bandwith here isn’t great, so maybe simple is better for the people here on AmSam. We’ll have to see if it’s a similar issue over in Sam.

There wasn’t much for pickings at the breakfast buffet. We grabbed a couple Otis Spunkmeyer muffins and left to dine on our balcony. We had to kill some time out on our balcony and later out by the pool for a spell before finally getting ready to go to the airport around noon.

Check-in involved getting weighed. After all, weight-and-balance is crucial on smaller aircraft. Nicole and I were given seats in the front row. Not sure if this had something to do with us being the lightest people on the plane or not. We waited another thirty minutes on top of the already built-in 90 minute delay, which we didn’t love. Eventually the familiar sights and sounds of a Twin Otter appeared.

We have previously flown on them extensively around the Maldives and Seychelles — they are clearly the preferred mode of tropical island transport. We took off and climbed to an altitude of around 5000 feet for the flight over to Samoa. It was Saturday when we took off.
