Our interlude in the Seattle environs before continuing on to Los Angeles saw a dramatic change in weather. It is as if fall arrived overnight. The temperatures were in the 60s, the skies were moody and grey, and light rain was sporadic throughout the day. After a breakfast of rather large donuts, we went to Pine Lake park, where we did remote control boats on the lake.

After this, we went to Snoqualmie, where we went on a short walk to a waterfall. It was actually a more significant waterfall than either of us expected considering we had just been chasing waterfalls throughout British Columbia. By now it was time for lunch, and we went to an unassuming place called, “Small Fryes.” I had a cheeseburger and chicken sandwich. They were decent, albeit a bit greasy. This, however, is part of the branding as a sign over the drive-thru window stated, “specializing in grease, salt, sugar, & caffeine.”

Later in the afternoon, we headed off to SEATAC airport once more. In spite of having TSA Pre-Check, we were BOTH “randomly” selected for extra screening and subject to a surprisingly high degree of condescension, even by TSA standards. Nicole’s precious mints container was opened and touched by one of the agents while a different agent believed that my Canadian maple cookies were hazardous materials. We must be on some kind of list to be getting this kind of treatment lately. I’d like to give them the benefit of the doubt that perhaps they are under a lot of stress with the holiday weekend, but that only goes so far. With TSA behind us (finally), we were soon at our gate, and given seats in an exit row by a very kind Delta employee. All in all, it was an easy flight down to Los Angeles and smooth exit from the new Terminal 3.

It is unclear where we might end up next. My schedule is still very much in limbo. But for right now, we can hold on to the memories of a wild and busy summer that somehow ended with a nice, relaxing time in British Columbia.
