Summer vacation in winter

The sun blasting through the back windows slowly woke us up. We had a breakfast at the hotel with tea and large pastries. Then we drove into the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation to do a little hiking. It was a little after 10am and already in the 70s. We did a short hike around Andreas Canyon which loops around an oasis of desert palm trees and some cascading water, a strange site to see in these dry environs. As usual, it was difficult to capture on camera the things we were seeing with our own eyes. There were also a lot of schoolchildren in massive groups, so we didn’t want to linger at any one spot for too long because we feared being overrun. After our leisurely stroll through the desert and palms, we got back in the car and drove to the Palm Springs Air Museum.

It’s supposedly ranked one of the best air museums in the world. The layout was a little weird because it was easy to get bottlenecked between two airplanes and a tour group. Fortunately they had moved a large portion of their displays outside which made it easier for walking around. The majority of their aircraft were from the 50s and 60s, not unlike everything else in Palm Springs. Its location near the airport made it possible to also watch planes taking off as well, which was kind of neat to watch them take off over the numerous wind turbines on the distant hillsides. Air Force One was also there because some racist guy in a suit was raising money so he can keep being racist and keep wearing aforementioned suit, but I’ve seen the plane before, and that’s that.

After our time at the museum, we had to contend with a bit of traffic leaving the airport . #thankstrump. After about twenty minutes or so, we made it back to our hotel. We changed and sat down by the pool. It was quite hot in the sun. We had a lunch of grilled cheese and fries served to us poolside.

It’s been very relaxing here in PSP, and we have been enjoying the heat (mostly). Living where we do it’s easy to forget what time of year it is, so we are trying to remind ourselves that it is in fact February and we are lying next to a pool in 80 degree weather. Most other poor folks are shoveling and doing silly things like putting on boots before they go outside. Not Bricole, and for that we are grateful.
