You may or may not know that I’m about to depart for Greece. It’s going to be a trip mixing picturesque islands and historical sites. I wasn’t involved much in the planning process, so I’m along for the ride on this one. I am traveling with my Dad, so there’s always a possibility of ending up at some obscure art museum, 45 mins from civilization, and with a guest book with just 14 names on it.
Anyway, when I got on my computer this morning, Greece was front and center in the Washington Post. Unfortunately, it was not a promo in the travel section, but an ominous article stating that Greece is in a rough place. Billions in debt and facing over 22% unemployment, its citizens are a bit . . .angry. Just for comparison’s sake, the often talked about high unemployment in California is hovering around 8% last I checked.

I don’t expect to see these kinds of things during my trip, but who knows. There isn’t much of a working government right now, so things could boil up a bit. It’s a tricky situation akin to America being trillions in debt, but voters insisting on lower taxes.
Right now, I am on board my first of 3 flights. It is going to be a long day. My first stop will be in the beautiful city of Newark, NJ. My only concerns right now are what movies to watch on the plane and how that McDonalds biscuit is going to settle in my stomach. Nobody likes gas on a plane. It’s worse than snakes.

Apparently, there are also airplanes with rear-facing seats. I am currently sitting in one of these seats and am not sure how I feel about it. While my parents across the aisle are facing toward our next layover in Zurich, I seem to be pointed toward Guadalajara. I hope the whole taking off and landing backward sensations don’t mess with my sense of balance. Catch you on the flip side!
